Bridging the Health Divide: Addressing Inequality in Glasgow's Communities

This study highlights the stark health disparities between two adjacent Glasgow areas, Drumchapel and Bearsden. Despite being less than a mile apart, a 21-year-old in Drumchapel is 2.5 times more likely to die before 65 than their Bearsden counterpart. Key health issues like heart disease and lung cancer exhibit significant variation across these regions. Various factors contribute to this divide, including diet, exercise, stress, housing, occupation, and education. A strategic plan is proposed to improve health outcomes, especially for young people, to mitigate these inequalities.

The Facts • Drumchapel and Bearsden are less than 1 mile apart • a 21 year old living in Drumchapel today is 2 ½ times more likely to die before the age of 65, than a 21 year old in Bearsden. • Before the age of 65, men in Drumchapel are 3 times more likely to die of heart disease than men in Bearsden
