  1. How We Ought to Walk

  2. The Christian Should Walk • Not as others.

  3. Not as others Ephesians 4:17-24 17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

  4. Not as others John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

  5. Not as others 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “ I will dwell in themAnd walk among them.I will be their God,And they shall be My people.” 17 Therefore“ Come out from among themAnd be separate, says the Lord.Do not touch what is unclean,And I will receive you.”       18 “ Iwill be a Father to you,And you shall be Mysons and daughters,Says the LORD Almighty.”[

  6. The Christian Should Walk • Not as others. • After the Spirit.

  7. According to the Spirit Romans 8:1-4 1 Thereis therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

  8. According to the Spirit Romans 6:4 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

  9. According to the Spirit Colossians 3:5-7 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.

  10. The Christian Should Walk • Not as others. • After the Spirit. • Circumspectly.

  11. Circumspectly Ephesians 5:15-17 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. E. M. Zerr The original for circumspectly is defined by Thayer, “exactly accurately, diligently.” To walk in such a manner it is necessary for one to see or take heed to the divine law that is given to direct his steps. Jeremiah 10:23 O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.

  12. The Christian Should Walk • Not as others. • After the Spirit. • Circumspectly. • By faith.

  13. By faith 2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. • Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. • John 17:17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 3 John 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 1 John 1:6 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. Ephesians 5:8-10 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.

  14. The Christian Should Walk • Not as others. • After the Spirit. • Circumspectly. • By faith. • In peace.

  15. In Peace Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, 12 that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing. Hebrews 12:14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:

  16. In Peace 1 Kings 18:17When he saw Elijah, he said to him, "Is that you, you troubler of Israel?“ 1 Kings 18:18 And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the LORD

  17. The Christian Should Walk • Not as others. • After the Spirit. • Circumspectly. • By faith. • In peace. • In love.

  18. In love Matthew 22:36-39 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

  19. In love Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. Galatians 5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

  20. The Christian Should Walk • Not as others. • After the Spirit. • Circumspectly. • By faith. • In peace. • In love. • In unity.

  21. In unity Philippians 1:27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,

  22. In unity Ephesians 4:1-6 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

  23. The Christian Should Walk • Not as others. • After the Spirit. • Circumspectly. • By faith. • In peace. • In love. • In unity.
