  6. Paragraph 1 Some people learn a second language easily. Other people have trouble learning a new language. How can you help yourself learn a new language, such asEnglish? There are several ways to make learning English a little easier and more interesting.

  7. Language points(1) • trouble: danger; difficulty; problem; inconvenience • have trouble /difficulty/problem (in) doing sth. e.g. They have trouble repairing the car. We had no difficulty in finding the house. Did you have any problems getting here?

  8. Language points(2) • such as: for example; like e.g. They will plant flowers such as roses, sunflowers, etc. That sum of money is to cover costs such as travel and accommodations.

  9. Paragraph 2 The first step is to feel positive about learning English. If you believe that you can learn, you will learn. Be patient. You do not have to understand everything all at once. It is natural to make mistakes. In other words, do not worry about taking risks.

  10. Language points(3) • all at once: happening all together at the same time; suddenly e.g. I can’t do it all at once but I’ll have it finished by the end of the week. Don’t eat them all at once; save some for latter.

  12. Paragraph 3 The second step is to practice your English. For example, write in a journal, or diary, every day. You will get used towriting in English, and you will feel comfortable expressing your ideas in English. After several weeks, you will see that your writing is improving. In addition, you must speak English every day. You can practice with your classmates outside class. You will make mistakes, but gradually you will become comfortable communicating in English.

  15. Paragraph 4 The third step is to keep a record ofyour language learning. You can write this in your journal. After each class, think about what you did. Did you answer a question correctly?
