  2. Chapter 22 – Break through between Grant and Jefferson • Grant asks what Jefferson wants, and Jefferson says… • “I want me a whole gallon of ice cream.”  Jefferson might finally get something for himself • Grant offers to bring the radio

  3. Chapter 23 – Mixed Visits with Jefferson • Emma, Lou, and Reverend Ambrose visit Jefferson and he won’t stop listening to the radio • Grant, however, has a good visit because he has earned J’s respect • Reverend angry about “sin box”

  4. Chapter 24 – Grant’s big speech about heroes in the day room • Reverend Ambrose, Emma, Lou AND Grant go to visit J in the day room • Grant has a key private convo with Jefferson about being a HERO • Jefferson finally eats Emma’s food

  5. Chapter 25 – Bar fight • Feeling excited about the break through with Jefferson, goes to Rainbow Club to wait for Viv • Overhears a few “mulattos” putting Jefferson down • They fight, Claiborne knocks Grant out

  6. Chapter 26 – Grant and Vivian argue • Vivian is mad Grant got in the bar fight • Vivian expects more from Grant • Grant storms out but realizes he’s wrong and comes back in

  7. Chapter 27 – Reverend asks for Grant’s help • Reverend Ambrose knows Grant and Jefferson have special connection • Asks Grant to make Jefferson listen about God • Reverend admits that he lies in the name of hope
