Past to Present • www.ci.eugene.or.us launched in 1994 • All department and division pages looked different • Organically, individually developed • Library pages had been created independently with a private consultant, and employed frames • Library pages were not maintained by anyone but the ILS manager, grabbing content when saw it in print • www.eugene-or.gov launched in 2005

  5. Why a Portal? • Consistency & branding: Templates for consistent look and feel • Navigation • Fonts, margins • Page styles • Lots of built-in tools • CMS features, including versioning • survey tools • collaboration tools promised

  6. Portal Usage Statistics • > 650 pages • > 12,000 documents • Employment applications are at ~80% • In the last FY… • 1.4 million visits • $1.6 million in business transactions • 11,400 parking tickets paid for a total of $259,045.94

  7. The Story behind the story…. “One City, One Voice”

  8. Our 6 month journey that became two years… • 10-10-03 – RFP issued • 3-26-04 - Contract signed (Plumtree) • 7-11-05 - Live

  9. Why did it take longer than hoped? • Web Coordinators an added duty • IS staff learning product too • Navigation not acceptable • Homepage UI late • Could not import or cut & paste in existing

  10. After Implementation: Public Input Project • Mixed feedback • CPW (Community Planning Workshop) Contract • Public response shifted City priorities: improve first, don’t add new stuff

Based on what they heard . . . • Citywide Calendar (separate product) • Short URL list: http://www.eugene-or.gov/portal/server.pt?space=CommunityPage&control=SetCommunity&CommunityID=215&PageID=0 or http://www.eugene-or.gov/Library • Improved search functionality • "Site Resources" community added
