  3. Subtracting Mixed Numbers • To subtract the mixed numbers, first subtract the fractions. Then subtract the whole numbers. Rename and simplify it. CONFIDENTIAL

  4. EXAMPLE – Subtract Mixed Numbers • Find 4 5/6 – 2 1/6 • Subtract the fractions 5/6 – 1/6 = (5-1)/6 = 4/6 = 2/3 subtract the whole numbers 4 – 2 = 2 2 + 2/3 = 2 2/3 CONFIDENTIAL
