Individual Career and Academic Plan (iCAP) • Education plan detailing the courses necessary for a high school student to successfully prepare for graduation and transition into a profession or postsecondary educational experience. • Choices Explorer will help you prepare to build your iCAP during the 2nd semester of your 8th grade year. • Students will transition their Choices Explorer portfolios to Choices Planner at their future high school to access the high school course catalog and complete the iCAP for the beginning of 9th grade.

Pilot Projects – Career Academies • Career academies are small, personalized learning communities within a high school that select a subset of students and teachers for a two-, three-, or four-year span. Students enter the academy through a voluntary process; they must apply and be accepted with parental knowledge and support. • A career academy includes the following essential elements: • A small learning community • A college-prep curriculum with a career theme • Partnerships with employers, the community, and higher education

Pilot Project – Early / Middle College • Designed for students who would be at-risk for post secondary education: first generation college students, low income, minority, etc. • Offers college coursework as early as 2nd semester of freshman year • Students can complete most, if not all, coursework to exit high school with an AA degree and a high school diploma OR stay an additional year at the early college high school to complete the AA if needed.

Pilot Project - State Board Exam System • Supported by National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) • District led • Provides options for students • Ten other states are exploring and/or planning the use of the State Board Exam System: Arizona, Connecticut, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, and Vermont • Three MS school districts are piloting in 2011-12: • Clarksdale • Corinth • Gulfport
