  2. BACKGROUND • Challenge issued by President Mbeki to all Social Sector Departments • Challenge by the Portfolio Committee for Department to deliver to ordinary communities • Low level of funding for sport in the provinces

PURPOSE • Promote Mass participation within disadvantaged communities • Empower communities to manage these activities in conjunction with, Local Authorities, Federations and provincial departments responsible for sport and Recreation • To address issues of national importance eg: Hiv & Aids, Crime etc.

  4. PURPOSE • Poverty alleviation through job creation • Target Nodal Areas

  5. FUNDING • R20.0M FROM NATIONAL TREASURY • R1.0 PER PROVINCE THROUGH DORA

  6. TARGET AREAS • Historically disadvantaged • Crime Nodes • Youth, women, disabled • Not exclusive (aged) • Rural areas • Nodal Areas

  7. PROGRESS • PLANNING WORKSHOPS WITH ALL THE PROVINCES • CONCEPTUALISED THE PROGRAMME • DECIDED ON ACTIVITIES • AGREED ON NUMBER OF HUBS • AGREED ON NUMBER OF ACTIVITY COORDINATORS • SELECTION CRITERIA PROVIDED
