  1. Self-Evidence Artifact By: Sara Kay Veal 9-20-10 ♫ My Identity as a Pianist ♫

  2. ♪ ♬♫ ♪ ♬ ♫ ♫ ♪♪Argument ♫ ♪ ♩ One of the defining aspects of my identity is my ability to play the piano. I enjoy making music and playing for the enjoyment of myself and others. My approach to piano isn’t one that is intense or very structured. I simply do it for the sake of playing. Being able to play the piano is important to me because it’s something me and my mother can share, and music is something that calms me and relieves stress. My friends and family see me as a musically inclined person and it is the talent I am most proud of. Without Piano I wouldn’t have experienced over 20 recitals and I wouldn’t of had the joy of singing and playing in my high school girls trio.Piano issomething that I am good at and can enjoy and can hopefully lead others to enjoying.

  3. I N S P I R A T I O N My Mother has played the piano since she was 6 years old. The ability to play this instrument was a very important part of her life, and was something that always made her happy. She enjoyed playing not only for herself but for others as well, like in church and at weddings. Because piano was such a big part of her life, she wanted me too to experience what she did and share that same enjoyment. For this reason, I too have taken piano lessons since I was 6. Piano is significant to me because it provides me a special and unique connection to my mother. It also brings me comfort in knowing that my playing makes her happy.

  4. ♪ABILITY♪ Growing up, like all other kids, I tried sports. However, I soon discovered sports were not on my list of special talents. So, with direction from my mother I started with music and specifically piano. This path proved to be more of my kind of thing. I immediately loved playing and making music and got really good at it really fast. Naturally, with music comes singing and this too I thoroughly enjoy and have done a lot with, including girl’s trio in high school.

  5. Enjoyment As I have mentioned, Piano and music has proven to be a significant stress reliever for me and this is one of the many reasons why I enjoy it. I get really excited when I figure out a piece and perfect it. It gives me a sense of accomplishment and makes me happy. Another aspect of enjoyment that I get out of piano is playing with my brother. This, probably more than most things, has brought us closer as siblings. He is talented at both the guitar and piano, so together we have a lot of fun and are able to make some good music.

  6. Worship One of the more important pieces of evidence that support my identity is that piano allows me to worship God. I sincerely believe that one of the reasons God gave me this talent is to use it to lift him up in praise and song. I thoroughly enjoy singing and playing in Church and at Chapel at school. I feel like God appreciates that I use my abilities to praise him. Another way I think I can worship God with my music is to play to the elderly. Every Christmas for the past 4 years I have participated in a Christmas recital for older people in an assisted living facility.

  7. Fellowship Learning how to play the Piano and getting involved with the activities it entails has allowed me to meet some wonderful people whom I never would have known had I not played. Among these people are my piano teachers. Over the past 12 years I’ve had 4 teachers and each of them were wonderful people who shared an obvious passion for this art. In addition to my teachers I have met other young people who were also able to teach me how to be a better pianist. Piano as a whole has led me through many experiences that have shaped who I am today. I appreciate the arts very much and value my talent in this area.
