  4. Theory Courses • Theory courses are carried out mainly in a lecture format. • Sessional marking for theory courses will be from class tests, presentations, report writing and final written examination.

  5. Studio Courses • Studio courses form the bulk of Architectural education. • Studio courses are conducted in form of working studios where students work in class on assignments given to them. • Sessional marking for studio courses is based on the quality of the work produced by a student while in class and on assignments given for completion outside the studio.

  6. Assessment and Marking • There will be three heads of passing:1. Internal Marking- All courses2. External Viva voce- Studio courses3. Theory Examination- Theory and technical • It is compulsory to pass in ALL three heads of passing. • Any student failing in any internal marking will be deemed ineligible to appear for theory examinations and viva voce, thereby forfeiting the course credit.

  7. Internal Marking • For studio courses-1. Progressive marking done as and when deemed necessary by the concerned faculty during the course of the semester.2. Final internal viva voce. • For theory and technical courses-Reports, presentations and class tests conducted on a monthly and quarterly basis.

  8. External Marking • For studio courses-External viva voce. • For theory courses-Final written examination at the end of the semester.

  9. Credit System • A credit is a value assigned to each course. • In order to graduate, a student needs to accumulate a certain number of credits in the course of the programme. B.Arch. Programme requires 340 credits over 10 semesters.

  10. How to gain a Credit? • Credits are gained by 1. Attending the classes for a given course.2.Passing in all heads of a given course. • Eg. If a student passes in internal marking and final examination of the ‘Theory and Design of Structures’ course which has been assigned 3 credits, then the students accumulates 3 credits and so on.

  11. Attendance • According to Ordinance 119 of University of Mumbai, 75% attendance in each semester is compulsory. • If a student attends less than 75% of classes in a semester, such a student is deemed ineligible for admission to the next semester. • The internal marks given to a student will be multiplied by their percentage of attendance and these will be considered to be their internal marks. Eg. A student getting 80% marks in internal assessment and attending only 75% lectures will only be awarded 60% marks.

  12. Semester Grade Performance Index (SGPI) • Semester Grade Performance IndexThe SGPI is an indication of the student’s performance in the semester. • It is calculated in the following manner: SGPI = C1G1 + C2G2+C3G3+…. + CnGnC1 + C2 + C3 +… + Cn Where C = Course credits for a course G = Grade point achieved by the student n = Total number of courses in the given semester
