Internship Objectives • Students • gain experience in their potential careers • develop professional/job application portfolios • learn job application skills • enhance editing, writing, technical skills on the job • learn the differences between academe and the workplace • Employers • supervise and mentor interns • evaluate interns as potential employees • low-cost, qualified workers • Faculty • learns what employers look for in employees • prepare students for the job market

Student Requirements* • Junior or Senior standing (60 hours) • Overall GPA: 2.5 • English GPA: 3.0 • At least one skills English course completed (3303, etc.) • Approval of Professor in Concentration • Rev. learning objectives, goals, project plans • Approval of Liberal Arts Adviser (verify requirements) • Approval of Internship Director • Student evaluation of internship experience • Enrollment in English 3312: Internship in English Studies http://www.english.txstate.edu/englishinternship.html

  5. Employer Requirements • Meet w/ Internship Director on site • Agree to intern’s goals and learning objectives • Supervise / mentor intern to achieve goals / objectives • Report work hours Evaluate intern • Direct intern’s portfolio project.

English 3312:Internship in English Studies • Three credit hours • Meets alternating Monday evenings, seminar fashion • Student deliverables: • Professional portfolio, artifacts, reflections • A journal of work activities/experiences • Weekly time sheets signed by supervisor • Mid-term and end of term eval by supervisor • Present completed ePortfolio to the class, internship director and interested faculty
