  1. The Power of Nature Tyler Griffin

  2. Reflection For this project I chose to do the power of nature. I chose this because, first and foremost it is one of my favorite things to study, and it is something that effects our day to day lives in ways we don’t even realize. Whether it is coping with major forces of nature and disaster as I have pictured in the project or trying to guess what seasons weather might be taking place from day to day here in North Carolina, these things have power over our lives every day

  3. Reflection As we grow as a technologically advanced world, so to does our opinions on how to cope with nature. It is an issue we have been facing since the beginning of time, but if we were given another 4,000 years we still could not master it. All the same we do our best to predict it, prevent damage from it, learn causes and origins of it, or all together steer clear from it but nature always has its way of being a factor in our lives. This is my view of its impact on our lives and I believe that no matter how much study or research is done this cannot be changed.

  4. Reflection The main issue with this power that nature holds is how people think we should deal with it. Some say the government should protect us, like often after Hurricane Katrina the blame somehow always landed on the government. Some believe you should just not live in danger areas for natural disasters; if you find one let me know. And yet others believe we should coincide with nature and if it decides to affect us we rebuild, but if your trailer gets carried off by a tornado every few weeks that might be a bit of a hassle. All things being said, I think we should accept natures hold on our lives and just intelligently do the best we can.

  21. South Dakota Tornado • T- This is a photograph of a F3 category tornado in South Dakota. This is a unique image because the photographer is fairly close, and you can see how big the tunnel is because there is a barn and trees close enough to compare. • R- The intended audience is anyone who appreciates tornados or super storms. As someone who likes nature and its many forces I fall into the intended audience. Any commonality I have with the author is admiring these storms but by no means would I get this close on purpose • A- This photo was taken by Carsten Peter. He is known as a storm chaser, as well as wildlife photographer. He photographs tornados, volcanos, glaciers, deserts, and wildlife. He has received numerous awards such as national geographic photographer’s photographer, world press award, and pictures of the year award of excellence. • C- The limitation to a photo like this is safety. If a photographer gets to close to something like this, obviously pictures wouldn’t be possible. Considering the circumstances Mr Peter got quite close to this tornado and got an excellent shot. • E- As a storm chaser this photographer puts himself into the position to take these shots. The formation of this storm made the author’s involvement and there follows the amazing picture.

  24. Volcano and Lightning in Chile • T- This is a photograph of the Puyehue volcano in Chile from June of 2011. This is a very unique image because two types of nature are being displayed at once which casts a scary beauty. • R- This image was taken to both inform people of the volcano and storm taking place as well as to express the power of the nature in these types of things so that when the situation is over people can admire it. I am part of this admiring group because of the love I have for nature and its pure force. And since the photographer is a photo journalist focused on nature in Chile I think we have a commonality in appreciation for these things • A- This photo was taken by Francisco Negroni, a nature photo journalist in Chile. I assume he took this photo because of his job and the major volcano taking place there. • C- This image is limited by how far away the photographer had to be. He had to be far enough away to have a safe distance as well as get a distance shot to capture the whole image. Given the limitations of where the photographer had to position himself I believe he captured this moment perfectly. • E- This photograph was taken because of the serious volcano and the urge to be able to share this point of view from someone who lives there

  27. Over Corio Bay • P- This is an image of a lightning storm taking place over the Corio Bay in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. I found this picture published on pixadus.com as a desktop wallpaper. The main point is to share the beauty of this split second in time. • A- This photo was taken by James Collier a resident of Geelong who owns and runs a small private photography and printing company. He has been shooting since the 70’s and does landscape photos, event photos, calendars, as well as portraits and image printing. He can be contacted through his website(email) as well as facebook. • R- The primary audience are those who appreciate nature and either want to admire it digitally or printed. • A- This image does not present any type of bias, it is simply just expressing the image the author encountered. • D- The image also does not make any demands because of its expressive nature • I- What I would like to know beyond this image is if these types of storms happen often. Pictures can be worth a thousand words, but if you don’t know the background then a lot can be left to wonder. • G- Through this piece, I wanted to go to Australia just so I can witness something like this. I love watching storms and have never seen thunder storm clouds like this. • M- This author has a love for photographing nature, so at the time of the storm and seeing such unusual clouds, I believe he began to snap pictures to get this perfect shot.
