  1. The Most Dangerous Game By Elizabeth Johnson Pd.5

  2. The Palace “But as he forged along, he saw to his great astonishment that all the lights were in one enormous building—a lofty structure with pointed towers plunging upward into the gloom. His eyes made out the shadowy outlines of a palatial château; it was set on a high bluff, and on three sides of it cliffs dived down to where the sea licked greedy lips in the shadows.” pg. 22 At the palace, the author reveals that Rainsford is pretty desperate and has no where to go because he is going to a large mansion surrounded cliffs and owned by people he doesn’t know that own guns. Also the author shows how I van is dangerous and savage because he aims a gun straight at Rainsford without even knowing who he is. The author also introduces Zaroff, and from how he is described the author shows Zaroff as a boastful and clever man, who has a dark, evil secret.

  3. The Dining Room “The dining room to which Ivan conducted him was in many ways remarkable. There was a medieval magnificence about it; it suggested a baronial hall of feudal times, with its oaken panels, its high ceiling, its vast refectory table where two-score men could sit down to eat. About the hall were the mounted heads of many animals—lions, tigers, elephants, moose, bears; larger or more perfect specimens Rainsford had never seen. At the great table the general was sitting, alone.” pg.24 In the dining room the author reveals that Zaroff isn’t the gentleman rainsford originally perceived. He is actually a crazy and evil man because he hunts human beings for entertainment. He lures people to his island by tricking them into crashing their ships on rocks. Zaroff also believes that he is superior to all men and that he should use them for his entertainment, he doesn’t care about anyone but himself. Rainsford knows Zaroff is a dangerous man now and must stay on Zaroff’s good side to stay alive.

  4. The Death Swap “The ground grew softer under his moccasins; the vegetation grew ranker, denser; insects bit him savagely. Then, as he stepped forward, his foot sank into the ooze. He tried to wrench it back, but the muck sucked viciously at his foot as if it were a giant leech. With a violent effort, he tore loose. He knew where he was now. Death Swamp and its quicksand.” pg.34 At death Swamp, the author further shows Rainsford’s cunning ability to act quickly under pressure by having him construct a Burmese trigger pit to try and kill Zaroff. Also the author shows that Rainsford can be easily fooled because he shows himself when Zaroff’s dog falls into the pit, but then he quickly hides again. The author also further shows that Zaroff is over confident in his ability to win because he leaves Rainsford for the third time when he could have killed him, he is clearly arrogant.
