  1. Examples of Urban Design & Planning Studies 19 project sheets/ slides Acknowledgement: studies carried out by Roxy Binno (as a Principal) in conjunction with private and public organisations and firms as acknowledged in the project sheet .

  2. Dubai CBD Area, UAE Baseline Urban Design Analysis & Revitalization Strategies; in conjunction with Dubai Municipality- Draft 2005 Dubai CBD covers approximately 1300 ha with population density up to 755 inhabitants/ ha. The current CBD is in development since 1950.

  3. Heritage Trail, Dubai CBD, UAE in conjunction with Dubai Municipality - Draft 2005 Dubai grew from the 19th Century small settlement at Bur Dubai (around Al Bastakiya Precinct), and by the 1950’s, it covered Al Shandagha Area and Al Ras across Dubai Creek (Khor Dubai). Later, many heritage buildings were demolished, but few were remained isolated across the CBD Area today. The Heritage Trail aims at linking the remaining heritage environments such as Al Bastakiyah, the Museum, the old souqs areas, Al Ahmediya, and Al Shandagha.

  4. Umm Ramoul Industrial Area, Dubai, UAE Preliminary Urban Revitalization Study; in conjunction with Dubai Municipality- 2006 Umm Ramoul is a Light Industrial Area, covers 440 ha, and contains 344 Allotments. One of the major aims of the Study is to redevelop Al Rabat Road Corridor to an appropriate urban environment.

  5. Al Rashdiya Residential Area, Dubai, UAE Reliminary Urban Revitalization Study; in conjunction with Dubai Municipality- 2005 Al Rashdiya covers 440 ha. The total population in 2002 was 23536 inhabitants. The Total number of dwellings in 2000 was 2509 dwelling. The Study aims at improving public domain and identifies residential precincts that need improvements.

Dubai Maritime City, Dubai, United Arab Emirate/Alternative Option, 2004Landuse analysis and structure planing; in conjunction with Woods Bagot & GHD Dubai, draft 2004 Development of maritime activities (commercial malls, hotels, offices, shipyard services, warehouses, and maritime museum and academy) on 195 ha land reclamation at Port Rashid Precinct, Dubai.Approximate investment US$ 1 billion.

  7. Central Arriyadh, Saudi Arabia Draft Urban Design Study; in conjunction with Arriyadh Development Authority 2002 Central Arriyadh is one of six metropolitan sectors. It covers over 300 sq.km and planned to accommodate approximately 1.2 million residents. It includes the Metropolitan CBD, and it is anticipated to be a catchment place for up to 10.00 million future population.

  8. Urban Activity Spines, Arriyadh, Saudi Arabia In conjunction with Arriyadh Development Authority 2002 Draft Local Structure Plan Case Example: King Abdulla Bin Abdul Aziz Rd: 17KM long and 70m – 100m wide. Analysis of the existing situation, Development Control Plan, and Spatial Management including public transport mode.

  9. Arriyadh Metropolitan Sub-Centres, Saudi Arabia in conjunction with Arriyadh Development Authority 2002 Draft Development Control Policy & Planning and Urban Design Parameters for each of the 5 future Metropolitan Sub-Centres; Area up to 200 ha each.

  10. Central Wollongong, NSW, Australia, Draft Urban Design Strategy; in conjunction with Wollongong City Council, 2000 Central Wollongong covers 5.00 sq.km of attractive coastal setting 80 km south of Sydney CBD.It accommodates over 15000 residents, and include the CBD and The University of Wollongong. It is also a catchment place for up to 0.5 million regional population.

  11. MacCabe Park, Wollongong, NSW, Australia Draft Urban Design and Rezoning Study; in conjunction with Wollongong City Council, 1999 The Study aims at revitalization of the public park and redeveloping the edges of the Park to residential and commercial uses.

  12. Thirroul Commercial Centre, Wollongong, NSW, Australia Draft Streetscape Scheme; in conjunction with Wollongong City Council, 1999

  13. West Dapto, Wollongong, NSW, Australia Urban structure Idea / in conjunction with Wollongong City Council -Draft 1995 Concept for sustainable development New urban residential area on approximately 500 ha rural area south of Wollongong.

  14. Development Control Plans for Wollongong City,NSW, Australia; In conjunction with Wollongong City Council, 1994-2000. -Residential Flat Development in Wollongong CBD (adopted) -Shop-Top Housing in Wollongong CBD (adopted) -Crown Street Urban Design Guidelines. -Residential Development in Environmentally Sensitive Zone (adopted) -Draft DCP, Commercial Development. -Draft DCP Outdoor Advertising Signs.

  15. 1990 RAPI Awards For Excellence in Planning, Qld, Australia • In conjunction withBrisbane City Council, 1990. • The Task included the Preparation of the following awards entries: • - Residential award/ Fitzgibon Development Plan (winner); • Urban Design award/ City Model (winner); and • CBD Revitalization.

  16. Cambridge Parade, Manly Harbour Village (Brisbane), Qld, Australia Self Help Area Improvement Scheme/ Streetscape Concept; in Conjunction with Brisbane City Council, 1991

Bejaia Governorate, East Coast, Algeria Regional & Urban Development; In conjunction with CNERU- Bejaia, 1982-1985 • The Region situated along the east coast of Algeria- North Africa and covers the valley of Soummam and part of the chain of Jurjurah / Atlas mountains. Tasks included the preparation of the following studies: • Environmental Study, Master Plan, and Urban Management for the Municipality of Akbou (130 sq.km, planned for up • to 90 000 inhabitants); Including the City of Akbou and more than 20 rural mountain settlements. • Urban Study and Master Plan for the New Residential Area at Tala Ourian- South West Bejaia (area 145 ha, planned • for 4750 Dwellings with facilities and services); and • - Urban Revitalization of Central Akbou (see next slide).

  18. Central Akbou, Akbou, Bejaia Governorate, Algeria Urban Revitalisation Study In conjunction with CNERU- Bejaja, 1984 Central Akbou is situated on the plateau at the foot of Jurjura (mountain chain) and covers 30.00 ha. It includes the CBD and a Qasbah (vernacular residential area).

  19. Oran Governorate, West Coast, Algeria Regional & Urban Development; in conjunction with ECOTEC- Oran, 1978 - Land subdivision plans at several settlements around the City of Oran such as : Cap Falcon, Sidi Chami, etc. This was within a strategic urban policy and framework to reduce urban pressure on the City of Oran. Each subdivision plan covers up to 6.00 ha, and planned to contain Up to 150 residential lots. - Renovation of Hai Filaoucen – phase 3 (possible development), Oran City

  20. Sa’ida Governorate, West Algeria Urban Residential Development; in conjunction with ECOTEC- Oran, 1979 • Urban Planning Study of the New Residential Zone at East Sa’ida (covers 60 ha and planned for 800 dwelling units with related services and amenities); and • Urbal Planning Study of the New Residential Zone at North Sa’ida (covers 210 ha, and planned for 5000 dwelling units with related services and amenities).
