  6. Computer Information Systems CIS is not for programmers and nerds only anymore. It is for people like you and me, and for those who like technology and the opportunity for a wide variety of jobs.

Computer Engineering – • Focus on hardware , study the design of digital hardware and software systems including communications systems, computers and devices that contain computers Computer Science – • Relatively broad discipline with an emphasis on the underlying science aspects Information Systems/Information Technology – • Concerned with the information that computer systems can provide to aid a company and other organizations in defining and achieving its goals We are Information Systems

Careers BUSINESS OR SYSTEMS ANALYST • Examine a business activity to help decide how new IT solutions will improve efficiency and effectiveness in decision-making • Analyze how users can interact better with the system • Specify the data and logical operations the system will perform, and the reports for the upper management. • APPLICATION DEVELOPER • Writes or modifies programs for a variety of technical, commercial, and business users. • Involves taking requirements, usually in written or diagrammatic form from the analysts, and translating them into computer code “Job Prospects are better with an IS degree as the subject is applicable to a wide variety of businesses” Manish Rogers, Graduate Student @ MTSU

  11. Careers IS SECURITY SPECIALIST • Ensure that data is kept confidential from the bad guys and available for the good guys • Established processes for ensuring safe computing (ie. Password management) • Performs security tests to make sure that others cannot “hack” into their system IS Auditor • Verifies that processes and data conform to standard and good practices • Gets to travel and meet everyone in an organization that uses IS. “The CIS program is one of the few that gives you the knowledge, the skills, and the experience to attain a high salary job.” Jesse Cooper, Senior @ MTSU
