  2. Preterite Tense Preterite tense is used to tell actions that happen in the past. It is used for actions that are done and completed. Boom, done. Example: I rode the pony at the circus. He read the book. We ordered the tickets for the show.

  3. Preterite Tense You cannot use preterite to describe the following in preterite (it will be imperfect tense): PWATER • Physical description • Weather • Age • Time • Emotion • Reoccurring Actions

  4. Words you will see with preterite (exceptions exist) El año pasado (last year) Una vez (one time) Ya (already) Anoche (last night) Anteayer (day before yesterday) Ayer (yesterday) De repente (suddenly) Desde.. hasta.. (from .. until) Pasado (past) (last) Preterite Tense

  5. Preterite Tense Regular -ar The same rules for conjugating in present tense apply. Separate stem from infinitive ending. Put stem in box. Add the verb endings. *** There are no –ar stem-changers in the preterite tense. We will practice with usar = to use
