  4. Incandescent Bulb Tungsten filament Glows when red hot Much energy is wasted LED Light Emitting Diode Small silicon crystals “doped” with phosphor atoms Free electrons become excited producing photons No heat output How do they work?

  5. My Project • Spectrophotometer • Typically used for filters • Fiber-optics emission Spectrometer • Displays readout of light spectrum

  6. Approach • Aperture to house different light sources • Allows for comparing different light bulbs on spectrometer
