  1. LED Lighting Is the Future… And the Future is Here! Green Machine Light Engine Represented by: Lordsco 916-952-7579

  2. Green Machine Light EngineTM Overview • Founded in August, 2007 • Privately-funded • Offices in Santa Clara, California • U.S. manufacturing using CM model • Management team experienced in electronics sales, distribution and electrical engineering (Hitachi, Spectra Electronics, Cypress, Foresight Electronics) 2

  3. LED Market Exploding 3

  4. What is an LED? • A small semiconductor that emits photons when electricity is applied • Comparison to bulbs • LED produces up to 100 lumens per watt; use 1/10 power vs incandescent bulbs 4

  5. LED Technology: 1960s to 2008 Improvements over 30 years… Performance 1960s 1980s 1999 2008 2003 2007 Time First hi-power (1W) LED introduced By Philips First panel indicator LEDs ~ 1-5 milliLumens* Indium Gallium Aluminum Phosphide 500 milliLumens Cree blue LED 65 Lumens Philips Luxeon Rebel Indium Gallium Nitride Cool White 151 Lumens Philips Luxeon Rebel Indium Gallium Nitride 116 Lumens 5

  6. High-Brightness LEDs! • Are now the most efficient light source (Lumens/Watt) • ≥60,000 hrs Lifetime (~14 years on 12 hrs per day) • No maintenance • Reliability that existing lighting technology cannot possibly match • No Mercury or Lead 6

  7. LED Technology Trend As cost per lumen goes down, the lumens per watt goes up 7

  8. Anatomy of an LED-Based Light LED Light Engine AC to DC Converter LED Array AC Input Driver Heat Sink 120, 208, 240, 277 VAC • High-Efficiency • Ultra-reliable • Active Power Factor Correction • Low Total Harmonic Distortion • Optimized Thermal management • Optimized for Reliability • Thermal Management is Critical • Constant current output • Ultra-reliable • Variable output voltage 8

  9. What Types of Outdoor Commercial Lighting Can Use LED Light Engines? “Wall pack” lights placed on the sides of buildings and warehouses Parking lot “Pole Lighting” Spot lighting Walkway “Bollard” LightingNear Future: Street lights 9

  10. A Standard WallPack Light • Aluminum Casting with Borosilicate Glass Diffuser • 150 to 250W Metal Halide Bulb typical • Bulb requires replacement every 1-3 years This and other wallpack lights are industry standards for outdoor lighting 10

  11. Why Use LED Lighting Now? • LED’s use far less energy; up to 75% less • LED’s last longer, up to 30 times longer • LED’s cost less to use over their lifetime • LED’s are now the most energy efficient lighting source available. Wall Street Journal, Sept 2008 • LED reliability is vastly superior to any current lighting technology 11

  12. Reasons to Retrofit Your Lighting with LED’s • Fluorescent light sources are energy efficient but do not last long, plus contain mercury and other toxic substances • Metal Halide requires frequent re-lamping • Sodium (LPS) is long-lasting, but the light color is awful • HPS has somewhat better color rendering, but still falls short • Utility rates are going up (PG&E is up 6% near term) and will only go higher 12

  13. Cost of Ownership vs. Metal Halide 13

  14. Cost of Ownership vs. Metal Halide 14

  15. Advantage to Building Owners • 40% to 75% electric power savings, depending on application • No maintenance (greater cost savings than the cost of energy saved) • Less potential for Liability from failed lights (Reliability existing technology cannot match) • Depending on the light size and type, the local cost of power, labor rates, etc. the user can save as much as $1200 per light over the 14-yr life of the LED’s. For 1,000 lights, that is $1.2M in savings, at today’s costs* • Capital cost payback in less than 3 years typically • 5 year warranty * Which are certain to rise 15

  16. The Green Machine Light EngineTM • State of the Art High-Brightness Philips LED’s • Leading-edge Circuit Board material and Thermal Design; ultra thin, single layer board with aluminum heat sink backing • Latest driver electronics • Modular design for simplicity, flexibility, versatility • High-reliability design - 60,000+ hrs • Outputs as much light as a 75W incandescent bulb (1200 Lumens) for 18W 4.25” W x 2.5” H 16

  17. GreenPower AC to DC Converter GreenPower Converterfor high-brightness solid state (LED) Light Engines. Designed to be as reliable as the LED’s

  18. Product Launch Roadmap • Q1 ‘09: UL certification for Light Engine retrofit • Q1 ‘09: Installation at Westin Maui, Chevron HQ • Q2 ‘09: Establish WW distribution • Q2 ‘09: Website and press launch of company and product 18

  19. Current Clients • Chevron Global • Westin Hotels • Irvine Company • Public Storage • U Store It • Extra Space Storage • Cities of Campbell, Milpitas, San Jose, Calif. 19

  20. Product Approvals and Partners • Energy Star: Product meets or exceeds emerging standards • PG&E and Southern California Edison: Rebate programs will pay ~11% of equipment cost for each installation • Already working with PG&E to be the first outdoor LED product qualified for rebates 20

  21. Market prospects • Schools, colleges, universities • Storage facilities • Commercial buildings • Car dealer parking lots • Shopping mall parking lots • Hotels, motels, condos, town homes • Hospital, medical facilities • Municipal buildings 21

  37. Lifetime/Lumen Maintenance of the Green Machine Light Engine • LED Manufacturer and Type • The high-brightness white LED’s we use in the Green Machine Light Engine are the • Philips Luxeon Rebel series. • We selected the Rebel device for the following reasons: • High Lumen/Watt (efficiency) performance • Excellent package design with low thermal resistance • Availability of good reliability data with supporting design information • Philip’s commitment to stand behind the product The following pdf document is an excerpt from the Luxeon Rebel series reliability report, which contains the manufacturer’s reliability information for the devices we are using.

  38. Lumen maintenance reliability as a function of device junction temperature:

  39. B50 / L70 B50, L70 means that 50% of a population of devices will output 70% of the Lumens as when new. The more current applied to drive the LED, the more heat is generated. We drive the Rebel LED at 700 mA, which is the red curve in the above illustration. Referring to the illustration, note that the 60,000 hr Lumen maintenance number applies to devices where the diode junction temperature is held to about 135°C or below. This is done by both electrical driver parameters and careful thermal management in the system mechanical design. Our standard is to hold LED junction temperatures below 110°C, done by the use of special metal-clad circuit boards, the spacing of the LEDs on the board, plus good heat sink design for the assembly, and finally driving the LEDs at less than maximum rated current.

  40. Why Maintain Such a Low Junction Temperature? While according to the device specifications we could drive the LED’s harder (up to 1A), LED efficiency drops substantially after a certain point. While you can get more Lumens output at higher drive currents, Lumens output per Watt input drops off substantially. So there are other benefits to keeping the LED’s relatively cool. The driver electronics would also be stressed at higher currents, and we prefer to maintain good margins in all parts of the design. While there is no published data on how much longer the LED’s could maintain 70% of their initial Lumen output if run substantially cooler than 135°C, experience suggests possibly both B50 and L70 could be enhanced.. System Reliability GMLE’s designs incorporate other system practices that ensure reliability, beyond what most other vendors have even considered. We understand that the reliability of the system is what matters, not just the LED light engine.
