  1. Falcon 10 dump valve characterization Alexander Vorobiev

  2. Objective • Verify the valve characteristics (flow rate vs. pressure difference)

  3. Schematics of the bench test, option #1 To atmosphere To vacuum pump PV FLOW DP

  4. Equipment needed Available: • 1 differential pressure gage (11 psid) • 1 absolute pressure gage (3-14.5 psia) • 1 flowmeter * • 1 thermocouple • 1 Vacuum pump (will be available since Jul 8) Not available (to be manufactured): • Flanges and some other hardware * some shop work will be needed

  5. Schematics of the bench test, option #2 High pressure PH PO - atmospheric pressure FLOW DP

  6. Equipment needed, option #2 Available: • 1 differential pressure gage (11 psid) • 1 absolute pressure gage (14.5-24 psia) • 1 flowmeter * • 1 thermocouple • 1 pressure source • 1 high-pressure chamber Not available (to be manufactured): • Flanges and some other hardware * some shop work will be needed

  7. Bench tests, option #2, Cons: Can be only made in the range of pressures 1 ≤ PH/PO < 1.63 Because:overpressure level (PH-PO) not to exceed 9.2 psi* *component maintenance manual, DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION, p.1

  8. Bench tests, option #2 Flow of Conditioning Transitory 11.24 lbs/min Valve overpressure exceeds 9.2 psi in this region;option #2 Meaning of Tag on Data: Mach? Flow Rate = Dump Valve + A/C Leaks Allowable Air Supply Leak Rate = Dump Valve Rate – ECS Rate = 2* 11.2 lbs/min – 9 lbs/min = 13.4 lbs/min = 0.22 lbs/sec Idling Engines End of Opening Assume: Pbp/Pcond is pressure ratio between cabin and freestream Level
