Proposal for TENCON 2009 from IEEE Singapore Section
Background • Singapore Section and its Chapters have been organizing at least 5 IEEE conferences every year for the last ten years :– no lack of very experienced and highly motivated volunteers to organize TENCON in 2009. • It organized the TENCON in 1994 and again in 2001. Both have been very successful.
Organizers and Sponsors • Organizer and main sponsor: IEEE Singapore Section • Co-sponsor: IEEE Region 10 • Proposed Technical Co-sponsors: A-STAR National University of Singapore Nanyang Technological University • Supported by Singapore Tourism Board
Organizers and Sponsors • ASTAR is the national Agency for Science, Technology and Research in Singapore and manages a number of research institutes. • Both National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University are well-known top universities in the world.
Dateof Conference • Singapore is suitable to host conferences the whole year round !! • Traditionally, TENCON is usually in October :- we are happy to do it here. • Other months can also be considered, to maximize participants from countries in Region 10.
Venue • A bit early to confirm any specific venue • Possibly: Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort
Financial Arrangement • As Singapore Section is financially healthy, it may not require any seed money from Region 10. • Surplus sharing between Singapore Section and Region 10 shall be 70% and 30% respectively, as were the arrangements in all recent TENCONs.
Conference Theme • To be decided later, depending on the emerging technologies later in this decade.
Technical Program • A four-day program consisting of one day of professional courses and three days of technical presentations in oral and poster formats. • Abstract and full paper submission, paper review, registration and accommodation booking will be entirely web based. • A technical program committee consisting of well qualified IEEE members in Region 10 shall handle the paper review.
Registration • A flat registration fee will be charged which entitles the delegate to all professional courses, technical sessions, banquet, daily lunches and tea-breaks, and a CD-ROM copy of the proceedings. • The fee will be no higher than the average fee charged by IEEE conferences. • To encourage student participation, there will be a student rate which excludes banquet and lunches.
Local Arrangements and Secretariat • A professional conference organizer will be engaged to provide efficient and friendly service.
Committee and Contact • As Singapore Section has an excellent track record and experience in organizing IEEE conferences, there will be no lack of experienced volunteers to form an efficient and responsible organizing committee by 2007, two years before the conference. • Prior to that, the Singapore Section Ex-Com shall take charge of any necessary preparations.
Lastly… • We hope the Singapore Section will be given the opportunity to host TENCON in 2009. • Thank You !!
