Southland AcademyGraduation Requirements Graduating Class of 2015 • English 4 units • Math 4 units (must include Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry) • Science 4 units (must include Biology and Physical Science) • Social Sciences 4 units (must include W. History, US History, and Government/Economics) • Foreign Language 2 units (must be of the same language) • Soph. Composition ½ unit • Sr. Composition ½ unit (If did not take AP English) • Speech ½ unit • Health ½ unit • Physical Education ½ unit • Electives 3 ½ units • Total 24 units • Service Hours – 20 Hours

  3. College Admissions Tests – ACT & SAT • ACT – www.act.org • Measures your achievement in English, math, reading and science. Scores are averaged to give you a composite score. Perfect score is 36. • SAT - www.collegeboard.org • Measures critical reading, math, and writing skills. Scores for each section range from 200-800 points. ** When you register for SAT &/or ACT use Southland Academy’s CEEB code, 110072, so that Southland will receive your test scores. • Each time you register to take the SAT/ACT you can select up to 4 free recipients to receive your SAT/ACT scores. After you have taken the test, you can pay to submit your scores to other colleges. • SAT & ACT Test Prep • www.collegeboard.org – SAT Study Guide and example questions • www.GACollege411.org → College Planning → Test Prep • www.kahnacademy.org- SAT and other school subjects assistance • Official SAT Question of the Day App Some colleges require a SAT Subject test. Check with the college to see if this is required.

What is the NCAA Eligibility Center? • Certifies the academic and amateur credentials of all college-bound student-athletes who wish to compete in NCAA Division I or II athletics. • Fosters a cooperative environment of education and partnership with high schools, high school coaches and college-bound student-athletes. • Ultimately, the individual student-athlete is responsible for achieving and protecting his or her eligibility status. • www.eligibilitycenter.org, click on “Resources” and then select the type of student you are (U.S., International or home school). You can then navigate through the resources to find helpful information. ** To send your ACT &/or SAT scores to NCAA you must submit them from the ACT &/or SAT websites using code 9999.

  6. The Board of Regents has also set minimum Freshman Index requirements scores for each sector. Institutions can require higher Freshman Index requirements; or they can use a combination of test scores, HSGPA, and FI as their admission standards. Before applying, check with each college to determine the requirements of the Freshman Index.

Applying to Colleges: APPLYING TO GEORGIA COLLEGES using GACOLLEGE411: • Go to www.gacollege411.org • Log in to your account • Click on College Planning tab • Click on Applications and Transcripts • Click on Apply to College and Track Your Applications • Select Apply -- adjacent to the college you choose ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ • Some Georgia Colleges and other Colleges (in state and out of state) have their own application and can be accessed on the college website. Some colleges require an application called the Common Application(www.commonapp.org). You can determine which application to use by going to the college website and looking at the undergraduate admissions requirements. For the Common Application: • Create an account and complete the application. • Make sure you include me as the counselor in the application (rpmoore@southlandacademy.org) • The application will also ask for a teacher’s email for a recommendation. Make sure you talk to the teacher prior to putting her name on the application. ******************************************************************************************************************* TRANSCRIPTS for Colleges: • Once you have completed your application, you need to request a transcript to be sent to the college. (check to see if a recommendation is required for the completion of the application) • You can request transcripts 2 ways: • Get a transcript request form from the college counselor and complete the form and return it. • Request a transcript through GACOLLEGE411 to be sent to the college. (this will email me a request for the transcript to be sent) Be sure to include your social security number on your GACOLLEGE411 account. Applications and transcripts can not be sent through GACOLLEGE411 without your SSN.

TRANSCRIPT and RECOMMENDATION REQUEST • Have all transcript request to me for processing before December 5, 2014 if something needs to be taken care of before Christmas break. • Also, if the college requires recommendation letters to be written by a counselor or a teacher please request the recommendation no later than December 5, 2014. Also, make sure you give the counselor/teacher writing the recommendation a resume with your information. • ** ALL college applications must be accompanied by an official transcript and SAT scores sent from CollegeBoard.org or ACT scores sent from ACT.org. It is your responsibility to make sure that this is done. ** The colleges will NOT take a copy of the ACT/SAT scores sent from Southland Academy. • FINAL TRANSCRIPTS must be submitted to the college you have chosen to attend if you are not sure about what college you are attending then request for transcripts to be sent to all colleges that you are considering. A FINAL transcript request form will be given out in May to all the Seniors to complete prior to graduation.

  14. If you are attending a private college, check to see if you need to complete the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE. This may be required in addition to FAFSA www.collegeboard.org

  15. FAFSA/HOPE • File the FAFSA as soon as possible (www.fafsa.gov). This application cannot be done before January 1. Check with the college of your choice for their deadlines. Everyone must file a FAFSA to receive financial aid. • HOPE – you can complete the FAFSA or HOPE application on GACOLLEGE411. * If you are a male and 17 ½ years old, you must apply for the United States Selective Service and print out your selective service number before applying for HOPE.

What HOPE pays for Beginning Fall 2012 Regular HOPE • Students must have a 3.0 GPA graduating from an eligible high school. • Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in college to keep HOPE. • For the academic year starting Fall 2012, the HOPE amount is capped at 90 percent of the current tuition rate at USG institutions. Zell Miller Scholarship • Student must have a 3.7 GPA graduating from an eligible high school. • Students must, in addition to the 3.7 GPA, have a combined 1200 on the critical reading and math sections of the SAT or at least a 26 Composite ACT score. These test scores must come from a single test sitting. • Students must maintain a 3.3 GPA in college to keep the Zell Miller scholarship. • A valedictorian and salutatorian from each high school will be eligible to receive the Zell Miller Scholarship without consideration of the GPA or ACT/SAT requirements. • Zell Miller Scholarship will cover tuition at 100% for an academic year. • Students who drop below the college 3.3 GPA can earn Regular HOPE if their GPA remains at 3.0 or above.

  19. HOPE SCHOLARSHIP CHECKPOINTSThe HOPE Scholarship Program has established certain eligibility checkpoints. At these checkpoints you must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA to renew your HOPE Scholarship. The first checkpoint occurs after you have attempted 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours), and at the end of every Spring term for full-time students; or at the end of the first three enrolled terms if you are enrolled as a less than full-time student. The second eligibility checkpoint occurs after you have attempted 60 semester (90 quarter) hours, and at the end of each Spring term. The third eligibility checkpoint occurs after you have attempted 90 semester (135 quarter) hours, and at the end of each Spring term. You can only regain the HOPE Scholarship one time before you will become permanently ineligible for the HOPE Scholarship.

For Both Regular HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarship • Book and fee allowances have been eliminated. • Remedial classes are not covered by the HOPE scholarship. • Eligible students can continue to receive HOPE scholarship until they have attempted a maximum of 127 semester hours. • Students who lose Regular HOPE or the Zell Miller scholarship at an established checkpoint will have a single chance to regain HOPE or the Zell Miller scholarship. • Beginning with high school graduating class of 2015, students will be required to demonstrate that they have taken a certain number of rigorous high school courses in math, science, and foreign language. • Courses earned through dual-enrollment will count toward the rigor requirements being phased in for 2015.

Once you have included the social security number or checked to make sure it is there make sure you save it at the bottom of the profile.
