  2. What is a DVD? • A DVD or Digital Versatile Disc is capable of storing large amounts of data on one disc the size of a standard compact disk. • Today they are widely used for storing and viewing movies and other data.

What is Primary and Secondary Storage • Primary storage typically refers to random access memory or “RAM” • Secondary storage refers to the computers internal hard drive. • RAM, commonly called “memory” is considered primary storage since it stores data that is directly accessible by the computers CPU

  4. What is a Monitor? • A monitor is a piece of computer hardware that displays the video and graphics information generated by the computer through the video card.

  5. What is a Keyboard? • A keyboard is the set of typewriter-like keys that enables you to enter data into a computer and other devices. Computer keyboards are similar to electric-typewriter keyboards but contain additional keys.

  6. What is a Scanner? • A scanner is a device that captures images from photographic prints, posters, magazine pages, and similar sources for computer editing and display. Scanners come in hand-held, feed-in, and flatbed types and for scanning black-and-white only, or color. Very high resolution scanners are used for scanning for high-resolution printing, but lower resolution scanners are adequate for capturing images for computer display.

  7. What is a Graphics Tablet? • A Graphic table is a computer input device that enables a user to hand-draw images, animations and graphics, with a special pen-like stylus, similar to the way a person draws images with a pencil and paper

What is a Laser Printer? • A printer, linked to a computer, producing good-quality printed material by using a laser to form a pattern of electrostatically charged dots on a light-sensitive drum, which attract toner (or dry ink powder). •  The toner is transferred to a piece of paper and fixed by a heating process.

  9. What is a Mouse? • The computer mouse is considered an input device. With a click of a button, the mouse sends information to the computer. The computer mouse is an interesting device that offers an alternative way to interact with the computer beside a keyboard. • A typical mouse has two buttons. At the top of the device you will find a left and right button which allows for “clicks”. There is a scrolling wheel between the two buttons.

What is a Hard Drive? • A hard drive disk is a non-volatile memory hardware device that permanently stores and retrieves information. • There are many variations, but their sizes are generally 3.5” and 2.5” for desktop and laptop computers respectively. • A hard drive can be used to store just about any type of data, including pictures, music, videos, and text documents.

  11. What is a Sound Card? • Alternatively referred to as an audio output device, sound board, or audio card. A sound card is an expansion card or IC for producing sound on a computer that can be heard through speakers or headphones.

  12. What is a Power Supply? • A power supply is an electronic device that supplies electric energy to an electrical load.  • The primary function of a power supply is to convert one form of electrical energy to another and, as a result, power supplies are sometimes referred to electric power converters.

  13. What is a CD-ROM Drive? • Short for Compact Disc-Read Only Memory. • Contains audio or software data whose memory is read only.

  14. What is a BIOS? • A set of computer instructions in firmware that control input and output operations.

  15. What is a Motherboard • A motherboard is the main printed circuit board (PCB) found in general purpose microcomputers and other expandable systems.

  16. What is a Network Card • A Networkinterfacecard, NIC, or networkcard is an electronic device that connects a computer to a computer network, usually a LAN. 

  17. What is RAM • RAM or Random Access Memory is a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly. • RAM is also the Primary Storage on a computer.

  18. What is a Flash Drive? • A flash drive is a small piece of equipment used to store and transfer information for computers using a USB. • A Flash Drive can store music, photos or other documents.

  19. What is a Video Graphics Card? • A video card connects to the motherboard of a computer system and generates output images to display. • Video cards are also referred to as graphics cards. • Video cards include a processing unit, memory, a cooling mechanism and connections to a display device.

  20. What is ROM? • Once data has been written onto a ROM chip, it cannot be removed and can only be read. • ROM retains its contents even when the computer is turned off.
