  8. Legacies left to Haddington 19th Century – local history archive John Borthwick, formerly of Haddington, died in the London Parish of Clapham on 1 January 1866. He left the residue of his personal property to the Provost and Baillies of the Burgh of Haddington for the benefit of the poor of the town.

  9. Legacies left to Haddington 20th Century – from media coverage “A Benefactor to Haddington Bequest for Improvement of Town” Headline in the Glasgow Herald, 1940 Mr John Richardson, solicitor, left the residue of his estate to Haddington Town Council.
