  1. Ms. Jones’ & Mrs.Nybakken’s Class Week of: Feb. 10th – 14th Volume: 12 This week in math students are focusing on fractions. We will be identifying equal parts of a whole and naming them using their fractional units. We will also be identifying fractions in a set such as 12 apples or 24 marbles. • Homework is due on Fridays • Log into Firstinmath.com to practice math daily! This week in reading we are working on finishing up our unit on identifying themes in traditional literature. We will also be introducing main idea and details and identifying causes and effects. Hot Topics: Jump Rope for Hear Week: Monday: Wear a Hat Tuesday: Wear Crazy Socks Wednesday: Wear Superhero Shirt Thursday: Wear your Team Jersey Friday: Wear Red and Pink Clothing This week we are continuing to work on suffixes and how they change the meaning of common base words. Our sort this week is Sort 51 Suffixes –y (having or like something), -ly, and –ily (both meaning how or when something is done). In our writing workshop we are continuing to work on our poetry pieces. We have planned and drafted our color poems finally! We will also be working on our narrative poems and narrative writing pieces. • February 14th • Progress Reports go home • Friendship Party @ 2:00 pm • Math Benchmark Test- March 4th • Reading Benchmark Feb. 25th This week in Science we are learning about planets. Students will be able to identify the planets in Earth’s solar system as well as locate their position to the sun.
