FORMATION OF NEPARC • The common challenges facing African N. Societies: • inadequate resources • dependency on external funding • inequitable partnerships • concentration on relief work versus sustainable disaster management • inadequate internal capacities • and ineffective structures and systems. • 15 ANS Resolved to work together, as a consortium, to effectively seek and implement solutions to the common challenges facing them.
Who are we ? What do we want to achieve? • NEPARC • A Consortium of African RC/RC Societies dedicated to enhancing their capacities to promoting accountability, efficiency, transparency and self reliance • Its distinctive contribution: to develop effective governance models for RC/RC in Africa and in General • Its focuses primarily on transparency and accountability, self reliance and effectivenessbut also on Community and volunteers ‘ enhancement and on the introduction/strengthening of informatics solutions into humanitarian related initiatives and works.
Approach How do we achieve our mission ? • Advising the ANSs Board Presidents and SGs on good governance, sustainability, program effectiveness • Mobilizing political will and actions • Building network/partnership & facilitating knowledge sharing

What Value added • First RC/RC consortium of this kind, dedicated to enhancing capacities of ANSs and bringing common voice to the humanitarian issues in Africa • Our Orientation to good Governance is different as well • NEPARC has put in place governance structures and practices to ensure full accountability to the African National Societies through their elected Representatives. • We have adopted third party certification – for example – as a self regulatory tool to ensure the quality of our work • We build confidence with our partners and we contribute to good partnership structure in all the activities jointly undertaken

Time to Act • Like any other organization, ANS want to survive and prosper. • To do so, they must respond and adjust to the social, technological, economic and political environment of their time. • Changes in the outside environment occur constantly, even in stable societies, for example as a result of technological advancements or new economic policies.
