The Promise of Progress • JFK had a broad vision of progress  NEW FRONTIER • Medical care for the aged • Rebuild urban areas • Aid education • JFK supported Civil Rights but did not push any legislation until 1963 • He lacked the votes in Congress and therefore played it safe • Helped boost the economy • Build national defense • International aid (Peace Corps & Alliance for Progress) • Fund a massive space program (Telstar & Armstrong)
