  1. My trump challenge • Find a solution for a global, national, local problem • I chose homelessness (All 3)

  2. What homelessness is: Homelessness is more than just sitting down on the side of a street with no home, it can be a range of different things but with 2 country’s one could say sleeping in a tent is homelessness but another could say it isn’t for example: someone sleeping in a tent in a park in NZ, we would think that is homelessness, but people in Saudi Arabia live in tents and if you ask them they would say they aren’t homeless, they just move their home (a tent) around a lot as they travel, as you can see the definition of homelessness can change between cultures.

  3. Homelessness statistics: • In 2005 an approximate 1 billion did not have suitable housing and 100 million had no housing whatsoever. According to the Related Link below there are about 500 million people in the world who are homeless. • Some people choose to live homeless, some people have to, due to things like not paying rent and getting kicked out of accommodation • Some people live in tents, cars, caravans… etc. but does that really mean they are homeless?

  4. Causes or reasons for homelessness • Some people choose to be homeless, but are they really homeless? • Some people get kicked out of jobs or cant pay rent so they are forced • Drug addiction • Racism • Discrimination • Joblessness • Child abuse • Natural disasters eg: earthquakes, floods, things that destroy homes • Running away from home because home situations are really bad

  5. It is very hard to count the homeless because of these things: • Some people find shelter one night but get kicked out the next • Some people don’t want you to know they are homeless because they work • Some people move places in a tent but if you ask them if they are homeless they would say they lived in their tent • Some people sleep in cars but they aren’t sleeping under the stars but they aren’t in proper shelter • Some people have whole family’s living in a small garage which is unsuitable housing

  6. Some things other countries have done to prevent homelessness: • Russia in the past had made it illegal to be homeless but you don’t get sent to jail or fined, you just get shoved in rooms of large housesor something like that even if you have a family of 20 people! • Most country’s don’t do anything to stop homelessness, they promise something they don’t actually do! • Some places in America homeless shelters send vans around and pickup people and transport them to homeless shelters but not all of them chose to go • Some places make it illegal to beg for money or sell things on the street but not be homeless which encourages them to find a job or somewhere to make money or at least seek a place to stay

  7. Ideas for a solution: • Fund raisers • Raise the welfare rates • Train young workers • Buy a few hotels • Give addicts time to heal

  8. My solution to homelessness: Not to shove them all in a house but to gather the ones that choose to come to a hotel where they will be fully cared for and a section off for addicts who can stay longer and have fund raisers to get money for the homeless currently occupying the hotel or Help in school fundraisers to gain some money government allocates a certain amount of lottery money for the homeless.
