Goals for Curriculum Team Data Retreat Goals: ** Implement MAPS assessment ** Continue to review tier 2 Writing Prompts District Goals: ** 1. “We will reach and exceed proficiency levels for all students as measured by performance on state and local assessments by focusing on literacy across the curriculum. Committee Goals when founded: ** Curriculum Guides / Maps ** Textbook Purchase Rotation ** Continual alignment to State Standards ** Assessment of student performance (all Tiers)

Today’s Focus: Curriculum Map - content area Some History… 2007: Technology standards were mapped to K-12 curriculum 2007: Essential Standards & Tier II Assessments 2005: Curriculum Mapping (some contents)http://www2.shelllake.k12.wi.us/District/district-documents/curriculum/index.html 1998: Math & LA standards aligned across curriculum (revised in 2004 & 2006)

Curriculum Mapping vs. Standards Alignment • (TODAY’S TASK)Curriculum Map:An outline of all content (skills) taught to students, including resources used, assessments, and standards. • (NOT TODAY’s TASK)Standards Alignment:aligning curriculum taught to meet the Wisconsin State Standards. Note: PART of today’s task may include listing standards met. However, today is not to look at all the standards to ensure your curriculum meets them.

  5. Curriculum vs. Textbook • Curriculum: Course of study; what is taught in the classroom; a plan of skills, lessons and objectives an educator executes. • Textbook: A resource an educator uses to teach the curriculum. A few statements of support… “Just because it’s in your textbook, doesn’t mean you need to teach it.” “If it isn’t in your textbook, but needs to be taught, it’s okay to teach it using a different resource.” “Your textbook is not your curriculum.” “Your curriculum is not your textbook.”

Always.

Today’s Action Plan Create/Update a Curriculum map.K-6: Splitting between Math and Social Studies7-12: Content area; at least one (1) course THREE areas of emphasis today:SkillsAssessmentsResources*Time Frame also A FOURTH area request if time allows:Wisconsin Standards Samples:5th Grade Math (White) : Year 1 sampleMath 7 (Green): Year 1 sample8th Grade Reading (Pink): Completed Year 2-3 sample Completed maps will be made available on school’s “For Staff” webpage once Principal-approved.

  8. Q & A Q: When does this need to be done?A: Today. Q: What if I have eight courses?A: Your expectation for today is to choose at least one course. Q: What if I finish my one course by 2:30?A: We are professionals. Today’s time is to aid your coworkers and administration to paint “the big picture.” Start another course. Q: When do all of my courses need to be completed? A: No final date has been set in stone because this is an on-going process.OTHERS?
