  1. KOALA ADAPTIONS

  2. WHAT ARE KOALAS? Koalas are Australian animals that looks like a bear. They are marsupials, meaning they have pouches and feed their young milk. They have a white chest and their back is mainly ash grey. Koalas have thick fur, fluffy ears and broad flat nose. They have large hands and feet which consist of claws. Males koalas are mainly larger then females koalas. A male koala usually weighs from 6-10 kg, and a female koala usually weighs from 5-7 kg. Some of these features are how koalas adapt to their environment. Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Diprotodontia Family: Phascolarctidae Genus: Phascolarct Species: Phascolarctos

  3. ADAPTION Adaption is the process of adapting. It is the change that animals and plants have in order to survive in its environment. When adapting, there are 2 types, physical and behavioural.

  4. PHYSICAL ADAPTIONS Koalas are well suited in trees which are their homes. They have large hands and feet which have claws and a strong grip. Adding to that, they’ve got thumbs which makes their grip more secure for climbing up trees. Another thing that helps them climb trees are that they have strong limbs. Also, one of the adaptation they have is that koalas have a thick layer of fur, protecting them from both hot and cold conditions. They have fur cover almost their entire body including inside their ears. The thick coat will evidently keep themwarm and their fur is water resistant.

  5. BEHAVIOURIAL ADAPTATIONS Some behavioural adaptations are that they have a part in there body to eat eucalyptus leaves. Eucalyptus leaves are poisonous, the special part in their intestine is what allows them to eat the leaves. So even though their main diet is poisonous, they can adapt to it.

  6. THE END!!!!!!! Overall, koalas live in areas with a lot of trees and mainly with other koalas around. They adapt in these areas to survive.
