NAMI DKK is committed to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental illness while enhancing the quality of life for individuals pursuing mental wellness. We provide free support, education, and advocacy for individuals, families, and communities affected by mental health issues. Our programs include monthly support groups, educational courses for families and caregivers, and community outreach through presentations and events. We aim to raise awareness and offer resources for those seeking assistance. Join us in our mission to foster understanding and support in our community.

Mission • The mission of NAMI DKK is to provide support, education and advocacy for persons, family members and communities dealing with mental health issues.

Support • For families & friends • For individuals in recovery • No cost to those in need • Facilitated by trained NAMI members who have the lived experience • Supervision and support provided to all facilitators
Support • Held monthly in 6 locations. 7pm – 8:30pm • Aurora • Aurora (Spanish speaking group) • DeKalb (NIU school calendar followed) • Oswego (twice monthly) • St. Charles • Yorkville
Support • Our evening group is every Wednesday at Presence Mercy Hospital in Aurora 6:30pm – 8pm • Our daytime group is every Thursday at AID in Aurora 2pm to 3:30pm • Free of charge • Led by NAMI-trained facilitators living in recovery
Education • NAMI’s signature education course • For family members who have a loved one living with mental illness • Free 12 week course • Taught by trained F2F educators, who have the lived experience • Listed by SAMHSA as “Evidence Based Practice”
Education • For parents and caregivers of children and adolescents who have symptoms of illness • Free 6 week course • Taught by trained Basics educators, who have lived experience

Education • Brains Can Get Sick • Was created for young high school or older middle school students demonstrating the symptoms of the major mental illnesses. • The DVD presentation includes a discussion of stigma • And a recovery speaker
Education • High school presentation teaching basic signs & symptoms of mental illness in health classes • A power point presentation with four embedded testimonials • A Recovery Speaker tells their personal story
Education • Parents & Teachers As Allies • 90 minute program providing understanding and communication between families and professionals • Promotes early intervention & treatment • This program is presented by a family member, a recovery speaker and a professional
Support • HelpLine • Information line for callers seeking support, education and advocacy resources • Calls are taken by trained volunteers in the NAMI office Monday – Thursday 9am to 12pm • All other calls are answered within 24 hours
Advocacy • TAC – Kane County • Treatment Alternative Court • Created to serve defendants living with mental illness, co-occurring disorders or developmental disabilities, who come into contact with the judicial system
Advocacy • CIT (Crisis Intervention Training) • Program designed to train law enforcement officers to effectively manage calls involving individuals suffering with biological brain disorders • Kane County Mental Health Protocol • Protocol that guides the response of law enforcers, the legal system and caregivers to people with mental illness who are in crisis
