  2. Metals • All elements to the left of the bold line • Properties: • Good conductors of heat and electricity • Have shiny, metallic luster • Malleable – can be pounded/bent into shapes • Ductile – can be drawn into wires

  3. Examples of Metals • Copper • Gold • Tin • Nickel • Iron • Sodium • Calcium

  4. Non-Metals • Located to the right of the bold line • Properties: • Poor conductors of heat and electricity • Dull, or earthy luster • Shatter, or form powder when pounded • Many are in the gaseous form

  5. Examples of Non-Metals • Oxygen • Neon • Sulfur • Chlorine • Carbon • Iodine • Nitrogen • Helium

  6. Metalloids • Touch the bold line • Properties • Have characteristics of metals and non-metals • Properties vary with substance
