  6. DAY 11 – Sprinkler Systems and Portable Fire Extinguishers What you need for DAY 11: • Fire extinguishers charged, mounted and labeled. • Defective fire extinguishers replaced. • Employees trained in operating fire extinguishers when required.

  8. DAY 11 – Sprinkler Systems and Portable Fire Extinguishers As proof of good functioning, each fire extinguisher needs to have a card with the recharge and current monthly inspection dates.

  11. DAY 12 – Storage What you need for DAY 12: • Storage shelving constructed to prevent slipping or collapse • Storage areas free of tripping & fire hazards • Safe method to stock and unstock shelves • Clear passageways and doorways for forklift, trucks, carts, hoists, etc.

  12. DAY 12 – Storage • Storing materials, tools, equipment, requires more than just room or space. • Storage areas must be strong enough to hold the load.

  13. DAY 12 – Storage • Storing materials require some sort of order and classification. • There must be easy access to stock and unstock items.

  14. DAY 12 – Storage • Storing heavy materials usually requires some assisting equipment.

  15. DAY 12 – Storage Now, complete this section of the checklist:

  16. DAY 13 – Forklifts What you need for DAY 13: • Only trained and authorized employees operating forklifts • Properly functioning forklifts at the beginning of the shift • Forklift load chart attached • Forklift controls labeled and functioning • Rules of the road enforced.

  17. DAY 13 – Forklifts Forklifts are specialized vehicles that must be operated by trained and experienced workers. Otherwise unexpected disasters happen.

  18. DAY 13 – Forklifts For a safe operation, forklifts need to be inspected at the beginning of every shift.

DAY 14 – Safe Machine Operation What you need for DAY 14: • Trained employees in the safe operation of specific machines • Personal protective equipment used as required by the machine operation • Moving parts (belts, pulleys, gears, cutters, etc.) safeguarded • Power shut-off at easy reach of operator • Lockout-tagout procedures in place

  23. DAY 14 – Safe Machine Operation • Training employees on the proper operation of a piece of equipment is the first step to a safe machine operation. • Follow manufacturer printed manuals and safety guidelines.

  29. DAY 15 – Portable Tools What you need for DAY 15: • Train employees on the safe use of a specific tool • Safeguards and safety devices in place and working properly • Hand power tools grounded or double-insulated • Personal protective equipment used as required for operating a specific tool

  30. DAY 15 – Portable Tools • Portable tools come in a variety of shapes and technologies • They also serve many different purposes

  31. DAY 15 – Portable Tools • Employees need to be trained on the proper, safe use of their tool, like wearing PPE and safe work practices.

  32. DAY 15 – Portable Tools • Following the tool manufacturer safety operation guidelines is the first step before pressing the switch to “on.” • For example, do not remove safeguards or other safety devices.

  35. Make sure that… You were able to answer YES to all questions in each of the sections 11 through 15. If one or more questions could not get a positive answer, then write these items in your action plan to be solved in the near future
