  3. Research Paper Writing Process What we have accomplished Read widely on a broad topic. Broad topic → limited topic. Created research question about the limited topic Thesis statement that answers the research question. Researched articles to support our theory. Where We're Going Today: Put the pieces together.

  6. “Prostitutes are often slighted by other Bangkok citizens, however if fingers are to be pointed, they should be directed at the government, the girls' families, and the customers who use their services.” Review Thesis statement that answers research question.

  7. A. The government is to blame – prostitution is not illegal because it helps the economy. B. Families are to blame – most girls come from upcountry to send money home. C. Consumers are to blame. Review Scratch Outline :)

  17. Outline and Research A. Argument 1: First, corruption in the government should be blamed for prostitution in Thailand. Support evidence: Government officials—particularly policemen—are known to accept bribes. Research: According to The Bangkok Post, a brothel in Hat Yai was busted last year. Chuvit Kamolvisit claimed the “brothel allegedly paid 40,000-50,000 baht” a month to police” to be permitted to continue their services.

  21. Why Write An Outline? It will help you organize all of the ideas running around your brain! It will allow you to find any gaps in your research or ideas early enough to fix them. It will make writing you essay less stressful because you will KNOW what you have to work with.

Where do I start? • Gather all of your research or notes on the topic that you are writing about. • Review it all and decide what your research/information is telling you about your topic. • Form a working thesis statement that describes the point that you want to make about your topic. • Begin to select what information you would like to include in your essay based on what proves your point.

  29. YOUR TURN Take out everything you have for your research essay and start writing a very detailed outline for your essay. You do not want to procrastinate, because you have to type this for homework and bring it to class next week. You have until the end of class today to work on your outline AND prewriting.

  30. Next Week BRING: Typed Outline (from today) Your Source Articles Speeches will begin in 2 weeks. Start preparing your speech. Speech only needs to be about 3-4 minutes long at most. You are required to have a PPT. Your research essay is due by June 10th.

  31. Blog Assignment Movie Review: Write about your favorite movie of all time. You choose your own title. Why do you like this movie? What kind of movie is it(genre)? Is it a popular movie? Would you recommend anyone to see it? Who are the main actors or actresses? Where does this movie take place? What time period does this movie take place in? If you could be a character in this movie, who would you be and why? Who do you relate with the most in this movie? You must have at LEAST 1 photo on your entry related to the movie.
