Overview of ONU Study Abroad • Available program options • Direct Exchange Programs are those in which Ohio Northern University has entered into a formal agreement with the hosting institution to exchange students between the two institutions. • Affiliated Programs  are those in which the university has entered into a consortium agreement with an international educational organization, OR those that have been established for a specific discipline or course of study at a specified institution.

  8. Overview of ONU Study Abroad • Costs • Program fees • Tuition • Housing (homestay, apartment, dorm) and meals may or may not be included in overall fee • Excursions (included or optional) • ONU fee ($47 per credit hour)

Overview of ONU Study Abroad • Costs • Financial Aid • Direct Exchange Programs: • Normal tuition, financial aid, and billing conditions apply. • Expenses such as room and board typically are the responsibility of the student. • Cost is about the same as studying in Ada (not including travel). • Affiliated Programs: • Tuition is paid to the institution of enrollment or to the program. • ONLY state and federal may still apply.

Obstacles to Studying Abroad • Two major obstacles to ONU students considering studying abroad • Choice overload (see the map http://onu.abroadoffice.net) • Identify priority programs and build familiarity • Include study abroad in curriculum maps for each major • Cost • Identify cost-effective programs • Increase use of semester programs • Establish useful exchanges • Others?

Curriculum Integration • Integrating study abroad courses into the curriculum for each major can reduce choice overload • Identify at least 2 study abroad programs for each major that include appropriate courses for the major, including Gen. Ed. • 1 English speaking location • 1 non-English speaking location • Clearly show how it fits in the schedule • Which year (Sophomore or Junior) and semester (Fall or Spring)? • Identify course equivalencies (or elective credit) • Note: a Gen. Ed. tag is waived for each 6 credits

Ed. • Use “Find a course” to identify undergraduate majors • Once you select a course, you will see an overview • Click on “Course Details” to see module descriptions
