  7. 2002 Achievements • The recommendation of the Telecom board from 1996 has largely come to fruition – • All communication services are integrated in IT-CS • Already achieved 50 % reduction in personnel • Tight control on industrial support • Enormous growth of the install base IT-CS Group Meeting 12 November 2002

  8. 2003 Challenges (1) • Going forwards – • Will the required material resources come forth? • They were part of the Telecom Board recommendation • Our plans are well received by the division • Determined policy of IP/Ethernet convergence • Telephone • Audio and Video • Emphasize on communication services • Reduced responsibility for operation of end-user equipment IT-CS Group Meeting 12 November 2002

  10. 2003 Challenges (3) • IT-CS service integration • Deployment of TechNet for LHC, PS and SPS • Grid • Construction of Tier 0 and 1 start in the computer center • External traffic for the Grid will increasingly pass on optical  • Data challenges will become Grid enabled IT-CS Group Meeting 12 November 2002

  11. 2003 Challenges (4) • The Division’s recruitment situation is difficult • Financial constraints will remain, and the needs of the LHC will determine the allocation of resources • Careful planning help motivate the management for our proposals • We have teams that work efficiently • We have obtained approval for important projects • We have an extremely ambitious program ahead • There are very good reasons to stay optimistic IT-CS Group Meeting 12 November 2002
