  1. Technology Forum Hosted by the eiNetwork eiNetwork will host a series of technology forums as an initial response to an identified library need for training.

  2. Background • 2009 Technology Planning Sessions • Ongoing library staff feedback and comments • Meeting with eiNetwork Board representative

  3. Objectives • To gather library input regarding possible training and educational opportunities • To increase library awareness for existing eiNetwork service offerings and programs • To provide direct training to library staff on particular services and subjects—e.g. website reporting, troubleshooting public wifi service, VPN setup and use, etc.

  4. Format of Technology Forum • Format similar to vendor or user group forum • Forums last approximately 3-4 hours • Multiple sessions operating simultaneously and may be repeated 3-4 times during the technology forum • Sessions target a variety of subjects • Sessions are brief and subject specific—30 to 45 minutes per session

  5. Where and When • Three forums conducted in late January or early February 2010 • To reach wide audience, the technology forums will occur on different days of the week and at different times of the day • Forums held in library locations throughout the county

  6. Challenges • Identify the way to reach the maximum number of staff and encourage participation • Communicate the benefits for libraries so directors encourage staff participation • Identify the best way to publicize the event

Session Ideas • Training & Education Session – Using focus groups and surveys to gather information about library training needs • Library Reporting – eiNetwork report expert is available to answer specific library reporting & formatting questions – e.g. “how do I ??” • Catalog Explorer – What’s so great about Catalog Explorer? Staff answer searching questions and explain features • Envisionware – Preview features and improvements • My PDA & EIN Services – How to setup your PDA for email, calendar, GoCAT, etc.

  8. Session Ideas cont. • My Website Reports – Getting and interpreting library website reports • My Library is Planning New Technology – Discussion of the technology planning proposal and its submission to the Tech Group • Why Do I Care About VPN – What is it, why do I need it, how do I set it up, etc.? • What’s So Great About BWA –Face to face with the helpdesk staff, what’s a “super user”, how to view the status of calls for my library.
