  3. Some stuff that you should know • Ocean waves have an energy potential of up to 3,000 Gigawatts. • Hydroelectric energy produces 80% of all renewable sources • Used for a long time • Can save 18 tonnes of coal

  5. Types: • Barriers • “Sea Snakes” Eg. northern Portugal, Agucadoura • Barrages eg. Rance, France Current Turbines eg. Oregon

  6. How it works • How does a tidal dam work? As the tide comes in, the dam allows the sea water to pass through into a holding basin. As soon as the tide is about to go down, the dam is closed. (cost effective) In comparing hydropower to other energy generators, the generators take less time to design, obtain approval, build and recover investment It is 90% efficient No AIR POLLUTION or of any sort The water that goes through the turbine is not altered therefore the energy can be used to produce can be used in other sources More predictable than wind and solar energy Saves space Taking no resources off the ground Blends in with environment
