  1. Are fundraising agencies effective for charities? Fundraising is vital to the work that charities can do. The more effective the fundraising the more widespread the impact of the charity can be. The UK has one of the strongest charity sectors in the world, with the British people donating billions of pounds every year. Most people will only donate to charities when they are prompted to do so, which is why investing in fundraising agencies can be such an effective step for charities to take. How do charities tend to fundraise? Billions of pounds are raised every year through charity fundraising – in one year alone the figure hit £22.3 billion. There are a number of ways that any charity can fundraise, and the best approach tends to be to spread efforts out so that if one channel of income drops there are still others to support the organisation. Most fundraising tends to either fall into the category of trading – for example selling goods or services to raise money – or donations. When it comes to donations, this is a huge income channel for most charities. This can include the one off donations that individuals make to charities, as well as sponsorship for specific events (e.g. sporting events), regular donations and gifts and legacies that are left in Wills. Donations make up around half of the money that is raised by charities every year and are a key source of income. Charities invest in fundraising for better results One of the big factors in fundraising success is being able to make contact with the right people at the right time. Most of us don’t simply donate to charity without first being asked to do so. We are much more likely to dig deep if a cause is personal to us, whether that is something that has affected us personally or someone we know and love. Donations can also be the result of adverts and marketing, social media campaigns and celebrity support. That’s why it’s so important for charities to invest in fundraising, for example through fundraising agencies – if there is no funding request then the donations are unlikely to start rolling in. Although it varies from charity to charity, most will raise around £4 for every £1 that is invested in fundraising, so the results make it well worth the spend.

  2. Transparent and regulated When it comes to fundraising, there are strict rules to follow – and these are enforced by the Fundraising Regulator (established in 2015). It’s important for those charities that are considering working with a fundraising agency to ensure that these regulations and rules are made a top priority for any activities that are being carried out on the charity’s behalf. With £4 raised for every £1 invested in fundraising, these activities can be very productive for charities – and utilising a Door to Door / Face to Face fundraising agency like Wesser can be a great way to optimise this.
