Purpose of the Wise Guide • To introduce people to the many fascinating, educational and useful resources available from the LOC. • Organized as a monthly online magazine that offers links to the best of the Library's online materials. Each of these "articles" is based on items contained in a collection, database, reading room or other area of the Library's online offerings.

  36. World Digital Library Provides significant primary sources from around the world free of charge

  37. What is it? • Cooperative project of LOC, UNESCO, and partner libraries, archives, and educational and cultural institutions from U.S. and around the world. • The project brings together on a single website rare and unique documents-books, journals, manuscripts, maps, prints, etc. that tell the story of the world’s cultures.

Purpose of World Digital Library • To make available on the Internet, free of charge and in multilingual format, significant primary materials from countries and cultures around the world. • To promote international and intercultural understanding. • To expand the volume and variety of cultural content on the Internet. • To provide resources for educators, scholars, and general audiences.

  40. How to search on WDL site: • Can search by Place, Time, Topic, Type of Item, and Institution. • Click on number next to an area of the world to begin exploring.

  42. Veteran’s History Project Collecting and preserving stories of wartime service on the front lines and on the home front.

  43. Purpose: • To collect, preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. • Tip: click on Search the Veterans Collections to narrow search. Great search tool!
