  2. Task • Tasks are the most basic building blocks of any project • Task represent the work to be done to accomplish the goals of the project • Task describe project work in terms of sequence, duration and resource requirements

  3. Task • Each task has a unique ID number, but it does not necessarily represent the order in which task occur • By default the task start date is the same as the project start date and the one day for the duration

  4. Task Duration • Task duration is the amount of time you expect it will take to complete the task • You can work with task duration on the scale of hours, days and weeks (m,h,d,w,mo) • The question mark in the duration field indicates that the duration is an explicit estimate

  5. Task Duration • 8/80 rule suggests that task duration between 8 hours and 80 hours are generally sized to a manageable duration

  6. Milestone • Milestones are significant events that are either reached within the project or imposed itself • It represented as task with zero duration

  7. Summary task • It is helpful to organize groups of closely related tasks that represent a major portion of the project’s work into phases • For the summary task you can’t edit it’s duration , start date or other calculated value directly

  8. Top- Down & Bottom– Up Planning • Top- Down Planning from general to specific • Bottom– Up Planningfrom specific to general

  9. Linking tasks • Sequence: is the second task must occur later than the first task • Dependency: is the second task can occur only if the first task is completed • Predecessor successor

  10. Linking tasks • Finish-to- start FS • Start- to- start SS • Finish-to- finish FF • Start-to- finish SF

  11. Documenting task • You can record additional information about task in a note • There are three types of note : task notes, resource notes and assignment notes
