Establishing a DOI service for Switzerland’s university and research sector

Barbara Hirschmann from ETH Zurich discusses the establishment of a DOI service between 2008 and 2012 through the e-lib.ch project. This service, aimed at the Swiss university and research sector, involved 20 clients and 29 services from 2009 to 2013. The technical infrastructure relied on the CNRI Global Handle System, and the service implemented OAI-PMH for metadata publishing with Dublin Core standards. It emphasizes accessibility, archival compliance, and user requirements, aligning with DataCite's best practices for robust and sustainable DOI management.
