  3. A Conservative Projection To address this urgent need, we must: • Think strategically about our pipeline; • Be proactive about leadership development; and • Involve all current district leaders in our efforts. 48 Principal Vacancies through 2011

Broad Foundation Grant • LBUSD is one of just three districts to receive funds. • $2.7 million over three years. • Comprehensive principal development process: • Recruitment • Selection • Training • Placement • Ongoing Support The programs and the grant will allow us to build multiple pathways to the principalship.

Ideal Candidate:Aspiring Principals 2007-08 • Wants to be a principal next year. • Out of classroom experience, most likely AP/VP • Is “almost ready” to implement all of the Power Standards. • Possesses the confidence needed for an immediate role as “the boss.” • Has been encouraged to pursue a principalship.

  13. Ideal Candidate:Principals Apprenticeship, 2008-09 • Wants to work for a year and learn how to be a principal. • Out of classroom experience for at least one year. Might be non-administrative. • Shows great potential, with mentoring, to meet the Power Standards. • Posses the desire to be “the boss” but may still lack in confidence due to inexperience. • Has been encouraged to pursue the principalship.

  14. Application & Selection • One application will automatically be screened for both Principal programs (and AP/VP). • Cover letter should delineate if you desire principalship or apprenticeship • Some candidates selected for the 07-08 program who are not promoted may be offered apprenticeships in the fall. • 15 apprentices will be selected, with alternates.
