Typical Everyday Diet • Phelps consumes 10,000-12,000 calories each day when he is training. • Breakfast-Three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise, two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes. • Lunch-One pound of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches slathered with mayonnaise on white bread and 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks. • Dinner-One pound of pasta and an entire pizza and another 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks. • He only eats white bread as opposed to wheat. • Rather than spreading his meals out, he eats three big meals everyday.

  3. Pros • Michael Phelp’s diet does not contain any refined sugars • It supplies enough fuel and energy in the form of carbs, protein, and fat for his vigorous training. • Encourages a physically fit and athletic lifestyle • Works for people with high metabolism

  5. Summary • Michael’s carb-heavy diet isn’t for everyone. He swims approximately fifty miles every week and clocks in several hours of weight training. Michael swims 1609 laps in an Olympic pool weekly(over 8 miles per day). In order to implement his diet on a smaller scale, try eating more whole-grain carbs and heart-healthy fats. Most people should also consume veggies, fruits, and lean-protein.
