Founded in 1909 by Arkansas Act 100 which established four agricultural and mechanical schools in Arkansas (ASU, Arkansas Tech, UA-Pine Bluff and UA-Monticello) • Started classes in 1910 as a vocational high school • Mission was to educate “boys” to be farmers and “girls” to be homemakers • The two-year junior college emerged in 1918 • The four-year college was born in 1930 – Arkansas State College • University status was granted in 1967 • ASU now offers associate, baccalaureate, master, specialist and doctoral degrees A Very Brief History Of ASU . . .
