  1. Transportation Enhancement Activities Expanding transportation choices, increasing recreation opportunity and access, revitalizing economies.

  2. Transportation Enhancements • 12 eligible categories for projects that relate to surface transportation. • Funds are 10% of STP (including Equity Bonus thru STP): about $800 million per year. • Federal share is 80% (with sliding scale).

  3. Transportation Enhancement Activities Eligible Activities • Pedestrian and bicycle facilities. • Pedestrian and bicyclist education. • Acquisition of scenic or historic easements or sites. • Scenic or historic highway programs including tourist and welcome centers.

  4. Eligible TE Activities • Landscaping and scenic beautification • Historic preservation • Rehabilitation and operation of historic transportation buildings, structures, or facilities (including historic railroad facilities and canals) • Preservation of abandoned railway corridors: Rails-to-Trails.

  5. Eligible TE Activities • Inventory, control, and removal of outdoor advertising. • Archaeological planning and research. • Environmental mitigation for water pollution from highway runoff, and to reduce vehicle-caused wildlife mortality and maintain habitat connectivity. • Transportation museums.

  6. Who to call? • Each State has its own TE process. • Contact your State DOT Transportation Enhancement Program Manager: see www.enhancements.org. • States are encouraged to use qualified youth service and conservation corps. • Repeat: TE projects must relate to surface transportation.
