Appearance • The Corroboree Frog of Australia is one of the most beautiful frogs in the world. It has lime, yellow and black stripes. The ones found in the Snowy Mountains have brighter yellow stripes. • The pattern of each frog is different.
Size • The frogs are tiny. Adults grow to about 25 mm. The sound made by the adult male frog is like when you run a wet finger over a blown up balloon.
Habitat • The Corroboree frog is only found in a very small area of woodlands and bogs in the Kosciuszko National Park in New South Wales, one of the coldest parts of Australia. It is found at altitudes above 1300 metres.
Diet • Young frogs eat beetles, bugs, ants, insect larvae and mites. The adults mostly eat ants, but also eat beetles and mites.
Life cycle and Reproduction • The Corroboree Frog lays eggs that hatch into tadpoles. But the adults don't start breeding until they are 4 years old. Adults hibernate over winter, hiding under fallen leaves, bark, grass, rocks and logs.
