  4. Well intentioned people are often undone by processes that they have little or no control over.

  5. Teams vs. Committee Committees - Members are grouped together for administrative purposes. - Members are told what to do. - Members tend to be parochial in their approach to the problem. - Expressions of opinions and disagreements may be seen as divisive or disruptive.

  6. Teams vs. Committees Teams - Members feel a sense of ownership because they establish the goals. - Members work in a climate of trust. Questions are encouraged. - Members understand personal and team goals are best accomplished with mutual support. - Conflict is recognized as a normal part of the process and viewed as an opportunity for ideas and creativity.

  7. Effective Meeting Checklist • Shared sense of purpose/charge • Safe meeting environment/rules • Agenda/planned time • Note taker • Accountability/action plan • Evaluation of meetings • Facilitator/committee chair/group leader

  8. Facilitation • Guide the discussion – do not direct the discussion. Keep within the rules and purpose. • Be Neutral – watch your language (body and verbal • Write down exactly what the person says do not edit. Listen carefully. • Be positive and enthusiastic about the process • Read the group’s emotions (body and verbal)
