  12. “The situation or setting where something happens – which can be used to help explain it” Context

  13. Synonym • Antonym • Explanation • Example Context Clues

  14. Synonym A word with the same meaning is used in the sentence. E.G. “My opponent's argument is fallacious, misleading – plain wrong”

  15. Antonym The use of words with the opposite meaning reveals the meaning of the unknown word. E.G. “Although some men are loquacious, others hardly talk at all.”

  16. Explanation The unknown word is explained in the same sentence or in the following sentence. E.G. “The patient is so somnolent that she requires medication to help her stay awake for more than a short time”

  17. Example Specific examples are given to define the term. E.G. “Celestial bodies, such as the sun, moon, and stars, are governed by predictable laws.”
