The Project Takes Shape A multi-disciplinary focus group is selected: DOT, Iowa State Patrol, county sheriff, local police, emergency management, universities, school transportation, insurance, county engineer, city engineer, GTSB, FMCSA, FHWA, MPO, RPA, department of health Focus group asked to fill out a survey about their needs Focus group asked for their crash analysis experience level Focus group asked about “packaging” of the manual
The Manual’s Content A description of Iowa’s crash database Data collection techniques A history of crash analysis in Iowa Interpretation of crash data Available crash analysis software programs Examples of common queries Glossary of terms, appendix, index
The Advisory Committee A 22 member working group is selected All are potential users of the crash analysis manual Same multi-disciplinary makeup as the focus group Recommend features, topics, issues to be addressed Write some portions of the manual Review and edit draft (chapter by chapter) via e-mail
