The Project Takes Shape A multi-disciplinary focus group is selected: DOT, Iowa State Patrol, county sheriff, local police, emergency management, universities, school transportation, insurance, county engineer, city engineer, GTSB, FMCSA, FHWA, MPO, RPA, department of health Focus group asked to fill out a survey about their needs Focus group asked for their crash analysis experience level Focus group asked about “packaging” of the manual

  14. The Manual’s Content A description of Iowa’s crash database Data collection techniques A history of crash analysis in Iowa Interpretation of crash data Available crash analysis software programs Examples of common queries Glossary of terms, appendix, index

The Advisory Committee A 22 member working group is selected All are potential users of the crash analysis manual Same multi-disciplinary makeup as the focus group Recommend features, topics, issues to be addressed Write some portions of the manual Review and edit draft (chapter by chapter) via e-mail

  16. Project Status Focus group selection, survey, and meeting Advisory committee selection and meeting Web page created Advisory committee e-mail list created First draft chapter reviewed by advisory committee

Project Goals Complete draft of manual by December, 2004 Final comments by advisory committee at meeting Final review by Iowa DOT staff Print and distribute manual to interested users (Paper, .pdf, web site, CD) Follow up survey of effectiveness Future revisions as needed (3 hole binder, dated sheets)
