  1. Problem 1 – Show all work! If a car drives straight off a cliff with a speed of 40 m/s, and they land in the water 75 meters away from the base of the cliff… • How tall is the cliff? • What is the vertical velocity of the car when it hits the water?

  2. Problem 2 – Show all work! A bored student is watching water drops fall onto the pavement outside of the class window. They begin top wonder how fast the drops are moving as they fall from the roof above. If it takes 1.8 seconds for the drop to fall… • What is the vertical velocity of the drop when it hits the ground? • If the drop lands 0.8 meters to the left of the point directly below where it started, what is the drops average horizontal velocity?

  3. Problem 3 – Show all work! An arrow launched horizontally from atop a castle tower with a speed of 30 m/s strikes a marauder below with a vertical velocity of 55 m/s. • How far away from the castle is the marauder? • How tall is the tower?

  4. Problem 4 – Show all work! Competitive darts does not use a horizontal throw. If the round board is .45 m in diameter and the center is placed 1.72 meters above the floor, calculate how fast you would have to throw the dart horizontally to cover the 2.37 meter distance between your hand and the wall. • How fast must you throw? (assume your hand is level with the top of the board) • How far will it fall if you throw 20 m/s? (45 mph!)

  5. Problem 5 – Show all Work! How much would a horizontal fast ball drop while it travels 13.7 meters from the mound to home plate if it travels at 40 m/s? How long would the ball stay in the air?

  6. Problem 6 – Show all Work! If Niagara Falls’ water drops were “perfect projectiles”, how fast would the water have to be going to provide a 2 meter walkway “behind the falls” 51 meters below the brink?
